Pienza

The most important artistic destination of the Val d’Orcia

The town of Pienza, once called Corsignano in the past, is located in a strategic position between Montalcino and Montepulciano, surrounded by hills full of churches and buildings built by great humanists and architects. Thanks to its Renaissance historical center, it has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Piazza Pio II is definitely a characteristic square. On one side you can admire the “Pozzo dei cani”, as well as the Cathedral of the Assumption, and the Palazzo Piccolomini, where several scenes of the film “Romeo and Juliet” by Franco Zeffirelli were filmed.
